How Personality Affects Relationships (Part 3)

Luke Kuepfer • February 7, 2019

(We’ve been discussing personality types...see chart from last week before diving in to the post below)

Directors gain security by having control, are fast and decisive, and are irritated by wasted time, unpreparedness, arguing, and blocked results. When leading them, avoid attacking their character, telling them what to do, or presenting them win-lose scenarios.

LEADERSHIP TIPS:
-Be efficient and competent.
-Support their goals and objectives.
-Argue facts and not personal feelings if in disagreement.
-Be precise, time-disciplined and well organized; do not waste their time!

-Focus on results or bottom-line.
-Give recommendations and let them make decisions.

Inspirers gain security by having flexibility, are fast and spontaneous, and are irritated by too many facts, too much logic, boring tasks, same old routines, being alone, and having their opinions ignored. When leading inspirers, avoid being negative with them, arguing, and rejecting their ideas.

LEADERSHIP TIPS:
-Be interested in them, support their dreams, feelings and opinions.
-Be sociable, do not hurry the discussion—give them a chance to verbalize...do not be shy!
-Try not to argue with them.
-Don’t deal with details—put it all in writing.
-Agree on the specifics of any arrangement.

[Next week we will finish our discussion on leading various personalities with particular focus on the last two— stabilizers and careful analyzers .]
